Open Source Development

Post by daevor »

After seeing the message in https://www.bookedscheduler.com/the-future-of-booked/ and subsequently on https://sourceforge.net/projects/phpscheduleit/files/, namely that the open source Booked was EOL, "Booked Scheduler will become a ful SaaS offering on November 1, 2020. This open source project will be discontinued." made me fear for the future of the Open Source version of this project, as such I immediately set to clone the current repo and all of the source code.

I encourage everyone to do the same and to preserve the the currently available code. I already cloned the git repo on to my github and everyone is welcome to clone it from there, https://github.com/effgarces/BookedScheduler, but you can also clone it from https://sourceforge.net/p/phpscheduleit ... ster/tree/

While I don't have much time available (too much work on my plate) I already have some branches, with bugfixes (some that I found in the old forums and others from our current implementation of Booked), with new plugins, translation updates, etc. There's also a RC branch, were I'm merging everything.

Everyone is welcome to contribute, to fork, submit bug reports and to help out

Thanks for your prompt action.

Just today i wanted to download the 2.8.5 version from the sourceforge repo to have it secured (in case that it disappears sometime i thought ;) ).

I was pretty shocked  to see that all files have been removed so soon, even though i was aware of the EOL of the OpenSource version.

I'm really thankful that you've been able to act quickly enough and transfer most of it to your github, before the whole repo was practically removed.

Today i immediately cloned/forked your github booked repo into my github account too:
https://github.com/nenimilo/BookedScheduler

Unfortunately also due to lack of time i won't be able to mantain the further development of the OpenSource branch of booked too, but at least now there's an additonal github fork of the current state available.

Best regards
Neni

I'm just glad I caught in time.
I was also shocked that the files were gone, I knew that the repo was probably going away, but to see that files were also removed, caught me off-guard. Thankfully I had a couple of releases in my hdd, so I've added them to the my repo, but I didn't knew to which commit they belonged to, so the connection between releases and commits is not correct.

I already added a couple of bugfixes in one of my branches and I'm planning on doing a couple of releases with these and a couple of other features that I've added to our implementation.

Thanks for also taking action and making a fork, I also noticed that a couple of other people already did.

Thank you for acting fast in this effort to keep this project Open Source! Me and my team did some small contributions for the projetct, and I'm shocked that it ended this way. Just realized the repository was removed, when I tried to download the last version...
